“I finished the CELTA in August of 2010 and one week later relocated to Portugal. I’m currently working as a primary teacher for International House Coimbra. I realized the value of having the CELTA once I officially became a teacher at International House. The CELTA prepares you for what the real world of teaching really is and, also gives you a sense of confidence when you step into a classroom. In addition to having the CELTA, I’m currently completing the YL course through the school. I love my current teaching position and plan on staying on for another year.”
"Taking the CELTA course was one of the most challenging and fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had. I devoted loads of time to doing written tasks and preparing for the practicum. I met many awesome co-CELTA people and instructors who helped me understand the principles of language teaching and applying those principles in real classroom setting. As a Korean non-native English speaker, it was definitely challenging but also very helpful. Now, I’m working at Western Town College in Toronto and will soon be going back to Korea. I can confidently tell you that this was one of my best choices for my career.
You won’t regret taking this course. Go for it!!!"
"I am now nearing the completion of my first one-year contract at a public high school in South Korea. Again, my CELTA training proved instrumental to success--my success, and in turn the success of my students. Now, truth be told, taking the CELTA course will not magically give you every answer you will ever need. The world is wide, and there are many different kinds of opportunities out there, but the CELTA programme, and especially the trainers at LSC Toronto, will help you build the foundation you'll need in order to prepare yourself for whatever rabbit hole you might fall into."
I was one of those students who came to CELTA with quite a few years of teaching experience, but without any second language instruction. As a former Torontonian, I was eager to take the course, even though most of my teaching experience was with primary school-aged children. It was the best decision I've ever made with regard to my teaching career.
I found the course quick-paced and challenging and even fell prone to anxiety attacks. The tutors knew exactly how to support me and the feedback was always constructive and helpful. After my return to the International School of Riga, I became a one-person department developing the second language programme, writing guidelines, and really enjoying the teaching. It's still fun and I refer to my experience and materials and course books on a regular basis. If there was a refresher course, I'd seriously consider taking it.
"After teaching in South Korea for several years, I decided to upgrade my qualifications. I completed the CELTA at LSC in Toronto, Canada. The program was challenging and the CELTA trainers were excellent. Upon my return to Asia, my CELTA certification, and the skills it taught me, helped land me a position at a university in Daejeon, South Korea.
Despite the many years of experience I had prior to completing the CELTA, the course taught me many things I did not know, helped me refine the things I did, and helped me identify the things I had been doing wrong. Whether you are a new teacher or an experienced one, the CELTA will provide you with the necessary tools to succeed in the classroom.
By the way, I am up for a promotion at my university. It is not unheard of, but it is a little rare for teachers to get promoted before their first year contract is finished. I credit the CELTA actually (and trainers Simon and Patrick specifically) - they are very impressed with my evaluations and classroom management."
"I had taught English to adults before I walked into LSC for my CELTA. I thought I knew it all. I didn't. The trove of information gathered during that exhausting month of training prepared me very well. I came to China right after, started teaching a lot of Business English classes and I am now being offered to renew my contract and become a Senior Managemet Teacher. I know I was good, but the CELTA course made me a lot better."
"I completed the CELTA at LSC in Toronto in October 2009. The course was one of the most challenging things I've ever done but it was so worth it! I work full-time in corporate training and took the course because I was interested in the ESL field and wanted the education to support me teaching it. I still work in the corporate field but have leveraged a lot of what I learned at LSC into the training I develop. I also volunteer at a women's shelter where I teach ESL. Although I'm not traveling the world teaching ESL, the experience of completing the CELTA, learning about the English language and teaching methodology, meeting new friends and being taught by an excellent teacher (Simon) are things I will never regret!"
I completed the CELTA course at Language Studies Canada in June 2011. I had been teaching English to adults and children in South Korea and Chile for two years prior to that and had developed some foundational classroom skills and teaching strategies. The CELTA course forced me to unlearn a lot of what I thought to be ideal teaching methods and strategies, and quickly made me a much more effective and efficient instructor in the classroom.
Never had I taken a course or studied something that I could you use so immediately in a practical way and it was a thoroughly educational as well an enjoyable and even inspirational experience. Our tutors were absolutely amazing in terms of the interactive lessons, practical knowledge, and most importantly, constructive feedback that they gave us on a daily basis and we all improved immensely within the span of a few short weeks. I developed a whole newfound respect and admiration for what constitutes a truly great teacher and an effective language lesson, and my experience at LSC has inspired me to pursue a career in language teaching.
Currently, I`m teaching at Korea university in South Korea and the CELTA course not only helped me get the job, but equipped me with the necessary skills to provide my students with what they truly need in the classroom and I can now walk away from my lessons deeply satisfied with my own teaching and the students` learning experience.
I`d recommend this course to anyone considering teaching English or even anyone considering teaching, as it will equip you with skills that are relevant in many classroom contexts. Be ready to dedicate your time and energy into this course as the more you put in, the more you will get out of it. It is a tough month but there is a reason it is so intense. You`ll come out of the experience not only as a better language instructor, but as a better communicator in general! Highly recommended!
