Description of Programme

The TEFL course has two objectives: helping upper-intermediate students improve their English skills; and providing a basic understanding of TEFL. The course is appropriate for EFL teachers in other countries who wish to enhance their language skills and refresh their awareness of current teaching practice. It is also suited to students with an interest in the EFL field.

The TEFL course has three components: language development, teaching theory and sample teaching.

Topics include:

  • Presentation Techniques
  • Classroom Management
  • Lesson Planning
  • Error Correction, Testing and Evaluation
  • Using Published Materials, Evaluating Materials
  • Teaching Children and Young Learners
  • Preparation for the University of Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT)

For the TKT, visit http://www.cambridgeesol.org/TKT/.

Our University of Cambridge-approved CELTA Teacher Training department offers this course, using teachers with special training in TEFL.

TEFL students have access to the CELTA Teacher Training resource centre. The centre contains reference books, teaching materials and computer resources.
